Footloose opened on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers theatre on October 22, 1998. The musical is based on the 1980s hit film starring Kevin Bacon.

The story revolves around a city kid from Chicago called Ren McCormack whose father has left him and his mother to "find himself".

Ren's mother, Ethel, unable to cope with city life decides to move in with her sister and brother-in-law, who live in the small mid-west town of Bomont.

Ren discovers, to his horror, that the town is run by a charismatic preacher, the Reverend Shaw Moore, who has banned dancing and rock music from the town.

To make matters worse, Ren also attracts the attention of Moore's rebellious daughter, Ariel.

Ren attempts to win over the young people of Bomont and takes on Reverend Moore and the town Council.
